Diagnose first, repair second
Most gutter problems have a root cause that is not visible from the ground. A sagging section usually means fasteners have pulled out of the fascia. This can happen because the original installation used spike-and-ferrule hardware instead of screw-in hangers, because the fascia board has softened, or because the gutter was pitched incorrectly to begin with. Fixing the sag without addressing the underlying cause means it will sag again within a season or two.
We get up on the ladder, check the fascia condition, look at how the gutters were originally pitched, and understand why the failure happened before we touch anything. That diagnosis shapes the repair. It is the difference between a fix that lasts and one that does not.
Common repairs we handle
The most frequent repairs we see in Northern Indiana include: resealing leaking corner joints and end caps, replacing sagging or physically damaged sections, reinstalling gutters that have pulled away from the fascia, repositioning downspouts that are draining at the wrong angle, extending downspouts that are depositing water too close to the foundation, and clearing blocked underground drain connections that cause water to back up into the gutter channel.
We also re-pitch gutter runs that were installed without adequate slope. A gutter needs to drop roughly a quarter inch for every ten feet of run to drain properly. Gutters that are pitched too flat or running slightly uphill will hold standing water, which accelerates corrosion, breeds mosquitoes, and adds weight that eventually pulls the system down.
Repair vs. replacement
Not every gutter needs to be replaced. If the material is in good condition and the issues are localized (failed fasteners, a leaking joint, a single sagging section), repair is almost always the right call. It costs less and the result is the same as a new installation in that section.
If the gutters are old, heavily pitted, failing in multiple places, or have been repeatedly patched, replacement usually makes more sense economically. We give you an honest assessment either way. We would rather give you the right answer than sell you work you do not need.
